Visit the Malaysian pyramid mall that’s bigger than the Mall Of America

Sunway Pyramid

The Mall of America has a reputation in the United States, even though it’s only the 20th largest mall in the world (it might rank a few spots higher considering how you count). One’s thing for sure, however—it’s dwarfed by Sunway Pyramid.

Twenty minutes away from Kuala Lampur, the mall is most notable for its Egyptian-inspired architecture, including a giant sphinx and pyramid. It has a few other gimmicks, like themed areas ranging from Marrakesh to Asian Avenue, but for the most part it proves that malls look pretty much the same everywhere.

Thanks to globalization, you can find the standard mix of stores (Timberland, Lacoste), restaurants (Tony Roma’s, Bubba Gump), and attractions (movies and ice skating). A few perks like intelligent parking make it harder to get lost in the lot (you can download an app), but Malaysia’s biggest mall is a lot like every other mall, at least on the inside. Once you go inside the pyramid, shopping is the most interesting option.
