See the French geography game that beat Carmen Sandiego by 350 years

Geography games were popular before the Carmen Sandiego games—in fact, they were popular 350 years before the fedora-wearing bandit began touring the globe.

This game is Le Je du Monde, a 1645 game by Pierre Duval. The object was to move from the outside of the board to the center. Of course, the date presents some geographic irregularities, like California’s appearance as an island (a common mistake that resulted in a generally misshapen North America).

Is the game fun? It probably depends if you like its vision of the world—in this classic French game, France is in the center.
