The secret way Facebook personalizes its site based on your location
Did you realize that Facebook’s globe follows you wherever you go?
Look at the top right of any page on Facebook, and you’ll see a set of icons, starting with your profile picture. To the right, there should be a globe that represents notifications.
That globe isn’t static. If you access Facebook from somewhere else in the world, it changes to reflect your location.
Don’t try changing your location manually to an Asian location—you have to actually be there for the switch to happen. For now, these are the only two globes Facebook uses, but they could always localize more if they wanted. You may have known Facebook is watching you, but now you know it changes the entire world just to make you happy.
